Jeff Barnes

W. Jeff Barnes

Mr. Barnes is a founding and managing member of IEG, and is also a principal of International Mediation Associates, Inc. (see "Related Services" primary link) He has been a full-time civil litigator for the past 20 years, having practiced in numerous state and Federal courts throughout the United States, and is also a certified Mediator and Arbitrator.

After serving as a prosecutor in Miami-Dade County, Florida during law school, Mr. Barnes subsequently became associated with litigation Firms in Miami and Boca Raton, Florida before forming his own law Firm in 1993. Mr. Barnes is admitted to practice in the state of Florida and Colorado and is also a member of the United States District Courts for the Middle and Southern Districts of Florida and a member of the United States Courts of Appeals for the Third, Tenth, and Eleventh Circuits. He has also been admitted to numerous jurisdictions pro hac vice including the state courts for the states of New Jersey, Minnesota, Alabama, Ohio, and Calfornia; the Commonwealth of Massachusets; and the United States Federal District Courts for the Districts of New Jersey (Newark), Minnesota (Duluth), and Wyoming.

Mr. Barnes' current practice is heavily concentrated in insurance-related litigation, including premium fraud, unfair and deceptive insurance practices, premium audit disputes, misclassification, and breach of insurance contracts. His litigation experience also involves lender liability, commercial/business torts and real estate litigation. Mr. Barnes has litigated hundreds of cases to trial in both jury and non-jury settings, and has also prosecuted and defended numerous appeals in jurisdictions across the United States in insurance-related disputes in addition to commercial fraud cases, nursing home negligence claims, and product liability and wrongful death claims.

Mr. Barnes' academic background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Experimental Psychology from Franklin & Marshall College (Pennsylvania), and both a Master of Science degree in Education and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Miami (Florida). Mr. Barnes' contribution to IEG is concentrated in the area of litigation support, including preparation of appropriate discovery, deposition preparation, issue analysis, and preparation for trial in addition to Mediation and Arbitration services.

Michael Camilleri

Michael Camilleri

Michael Camilleri is a principal of Preferred Insurance Capital Consultants, LLC. Preferred specializes in actuarial, litigation support and insurance management consulting services. Mr. Camilleri has previously served as Senior Vice President of Insurance Service Office, Inc. From 1996 to 1999, Mr. Camilleri was President of Insurance Data Resources, Inc. (IDR) and IDR Statistical Services, Inc. (IDRSS), national workers compensation rating organizations.

Prior to joining IDR in 1996, Mr. Camilleri was a senior partner and head of the insurance regulatory and health practices for Adorno & Zeder, P.A., a leading Florida law firm with offices in Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Tallahassee and West Palm Beach.

From 1978 to 1991, Mr. Camilleri was with the National Council on Compensation Insurance, Inc. (NCCI), where he served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel. At NCCI, Mr. Camilleri directed the Legal, National Affairs, Public Affairs and Residual Markets divisions. During his career with NCCI, he managed countrywide workers compensation assigned risk plans and reinsurance pools, established a prototype National Affairs Department, managed all internal and external affairs, provided oversight on multi-state and federal issues including testimony before U.S. Congress, and served as Secretary to the Board of Directors.

He is an author of texts and articles on insurance and health care issues and is a widely-sought speaker at national conferences. Some of his achievements include: Who’s Who in American Law; Who’s Who in Practicing Attorneys; chairing the American Bar Association Workers Compensation Committee; and Chairman of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners Workers Compensation Advisory Committee. He has assisted in the drafting of insurance and healthcare legislation in several states, including New York, California, Illinois, Georgia, Florida and Alabama.

Mr. Camilleri received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Long Island University and his Juris Doctorate from Fordham Law School. He is a member of the New York, District of Columbia and federal bars.


Anthony Grippa

Anthony J. Grippa is a principal of Preferred Insurance Capital Consultants, LLC, (PICC) an insurance, actuarial, and risk analysis consulting firm. He is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. Mr. Grippa’s responsibilities include a wide array of actuarial and operational issues. He divides his time between PICC’s offices in Boca Raton and Tallahassee, Florida. Current clients include self-insured, insureds, insurers, reinsurers, state insurance departments, law firms, attorneys general, governmental agencies, and associations. Current services include reserves analysis, ratemaking, regulatory issues, expert witness testimony, and general insurance management. Mr. Grippa provides client services for all types of property and casualty insurance as well as providing life and health insurance assistance.

Immediately prior to establishing PICC, Mr. Grippa was principal and consulting actuary for Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO) where he managed the actuarial consulting and workers compensation practices of the Boca Raton, FL office. Clients included self-insured entities, insurance and reinsurance companies, associations, and governmental agencies. Mr. Grippa also served as COO and chief actuary for Insurance Data Resources, Inc. (IDR) based in Boca Raton, FL. With IDR, prior to and after IDR’s sale to ISO, he provided rating bureau services to insurers in addition to the aforementioned consulting services.

Before joining IDR, Mr. Grippa was a Principal and Consulting Actuary with William M. Mercer, Inc. from 1988 to 1997. At Mercer he served as the national workers compensation practice leader, and as property and casualty consulting services office head for the New York, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. offices. Mr. Grippa provided actuarial consulting services to major corporate and governmental entities, including insurance companies, self-insured entities, financial institutions, professional associations, trade associations, and governmental agencies.

Prior to joining Mercer, Mr. Grippa was senior vice president and chief actuary with the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI). At NCCI his management responsibilities included: actuarial operations; statistical services; actuarial research; economic and social research; underwriting; assigned risk pool reserves; government, consumer and industry affairs; and, rate filings.

Mr. Grippa’s 30 years of actuarial and insurance management experience span the areas of pricing, reserving, and data systems. Mr. Grippa has presented expert testimony before state regulatory authorities in over twenty jurisdictions in the U.S., and he has worked with employers, regulators, lobbyists, and legislators in evaluating legislative proposals for property and casualty insurance.

Professionally active, Mr. Grippa currently serves on the Health and Managed Care Committee of the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS). Prior activity has included service as Assistant Treasurer of the CAS and as a Member of the following CAS committees: Audit; Finance; External Communications; Examination; Investment; Management Data and Information; Program Planning; and Syllabus. He has been a speaker at CAS meetings and seminars and before various government and industry groups.

Mr. Grippa’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Tulane University.


Robert Smart

Robert Smart

Robert A. Smart. Mr. Smart is the principal of Workers' Compensation Specialists, Inc. and is a co-founder of IEG. He is also an acting agent for Advanced Insurance Underwriters LLC, which is one of the largest privately held insurance agencies in Florida.

Mr. Smart's over 39 years of experience in the insurance industry began after he graduated at the top of his class from Clarkson College of Technology in Potsdam, New York where he received his BBA in Industrial Management. He joined Aetna Life & Casualty as a Special Agent where he received extensive training in the home office located in Hartford, Connecticut, servicing a number of large national agencies while also promoting a multitude of leading commercial property and casualty products for General Liability, Automobile, Property, Casualty, Inland Marine, Fidelity/Surety bonds and Workers' Compensation. He later worked for General Accident Insurance Company as a Field Underwriter, and thereafter became a home office underwriter for Excelsior Insurance Company's Southern Division which included Florida and Georgia, during which time Mr. Smart also continued to develop innovative insurance products.

Mr. Smart relocated to Florida in 1981 where he acquired a vested ownership interest in Bonina Insurance, an agency which Mr. Smart and his partner built to the point where it was acquired by the national brokereage Hogg Robinson, later becoming Republic Hogg Robinson before it was acquired by Acordia. Mr. Smart, being the lead producer in the agency, specialized in the larger and more sophisticated commercial accounts with a primary emphasis on construction related accounts which ultimately lead to his specialization in workers' compensation and his being appointed as the in-house expert on workers' compensation for Hogg Robinson.

In 1995, Mr. Smart left Acordia to form Workers' Compensation Specialists, Inc. (WCS) which specialized in servicing large national accounts including employee leasing concerns with thousands of insureds. WCS has gained the reputation of being one of the premier writers of workers compensation, and Mr. Smart has made numerous presentations with various trade organizations.

In 2001, Mr. Smart merger WCS with Advanced Insurance Underwriters, which is the eighth largest privately held agency in the State of Florida. Mr. Smart has also served and continues to serve as an expert witness in insurance-related disputes.


Christine Alexander

Christine Alexander

Mrs. Alexander has 15 years of progressive Human Resource experience and specializes in employment law, performance management, recruitment/selection and training/development. Mrs. Alexander is currently employed as a Regional Human Resource Manager with Vision Care Holdings, LLC, a national medical and retail corporation. Mrs. Alexander's current focus is heavily concentrated in employment law managing internal investigations and responding to complaints, including but not limited to Sexual Harassment, Discrimination and Workplace Diversity. Mrs. Alexander also manages Equal Employment Opportunity and Department of Labor claims, Human Resource Policies/Procedures and Performance/Salary Management.

Before joining Vision Care Holdings in 2002, Mrs. Alexander was an Employee Relations Specialist for one of the world's leading hotels, The Breakers, Palm Beach. Mrs. Alexander's tenure at The Breakers also included Employment and Recruiting as well as Training and Development.

Prior to joining The Breakers, Mrs. Alexander acted as the Sales Manager of Burdines/Macy's.

Mrs. Alexander received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a minor in Psychology from the University of Florida. Mrs. Alexander is trained and certified in the Predictive Index (P.I.) Management Resources and is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).
